Encourage Someone Else By Sharing!

Before we get started, let’s make a deal. I will be candid about how to stop feeling insecure, but first, you have to promise also to be honest.

I’m not talking about the half honesty that we serve on our social media pages, but real honesty.  Now don’t get nervous. You don’t have to utter a single word to me or anyone for that matter, but I just want you to be honest with yourself.

Why? Because I want you to experience real progress in your life.

Deal?!?! OK… Let’s get into it.

I’ll start with me.  I have battled with insecurity heavily in my life.  Even to date, there are times those feelings still try to creep in.

These feelings rear their ugly heads at pivotal moments. Particularly moments when I am about to embark on a new project or a new part of my life. During these times, the voice of insecurity begins to speak, real loud!

Insecurity would scream out, “You are doomed to fail because you are just not good enough.”

I admit this with no shame because I know we all feel insecure at some point.  Even the most confident person experiences these moments of insecurity.

Since we know that waves of insecurity will come, here is my question to you.

  • What do you do when insecurity begins to speak?
  • How do you silence the voice that keeps reminding you of every reason you are not all that you should be?

Here are my tips on how to stop feeling insecure.

Remind Yourself of Who You Are

Notice I used the words remind.  This means that first, you have to know who you are.  In case you do not know, let me help you.

God created you.  You were born and created with everything inside of you to impact this world now.  Think about it.  God could have placed you in any physical body, in any generation, in any family, but He chose to place you exactly where you are at this moment.

The last time I checked, God made no mistakes.  He created this whole universe that is still standing firm only God knows how many centuries later.  That same God created unique, fabulous, amazing you.

He gave you gifts, talents, genetics, influence, and everything else that you need to leave a mark on this generation. Your generation!

Not only that, but God did a slam dunk when He placed His Holy Spirit inside of you (provided you have accepted Him).  If you haven’t, you can here.

Not only are you fab, but you have got the Spirit of God living on the inside of you. Phew! If that is not enough to let you know that you are more than enough, I don’t know what is.

Be confident in who you are and who God made you to be. Psychology Today puts it like this. “Insecurity arises from a lack of confidence.”

Refuse to subscribe to anything that tells you that you need to be someone else to be great. I’m going to repeat this in case you didn’t hear it before. You are more than enough!

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,

-John 1:12

Face your Insecurities

People always say that in order to conquer anything, you have to face it.  I don’t always agree with what people say, but this time, I’m going for it.

Let’s backtrack.  There are often reasons for our insecurities, usually stemming from the past.  For some, it may have been a lack of parental affection, childhood trauma, being bullied in school, or even just previous perceived failures of life.

Whatever your reasons for feeling insecure, face them.  Tell your past to back off because you are a new person, and this is a new day.

When you give your life to Jesus, old things are passed away, and all things become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).  What happened before no longer has a legal right to enter your future.

It’s kind of like selling land, and the former owner now tries to build on that land.  In retrospect, the old you failed.  The old you was bullied.  The old you was hurt by friends and family, but you are now a new creature in Jesus Christ.

He is now your strength and healer.  Any insecurity that is trying to face off with the Christ-owned, you only have one choice… back down!

Simply say, “I command insecurity out of my life, in Jesus’ name!” Of course, it’s not a magic trick that you utter one time and boom…Pleasantville. Yet if you speak, affirm yourself, and believe in faith that it is done continuously, you will begin to notice the difference in your confidence.

Sidebar: Even if your mistakes happened after you accepted Christ, repent with your whole heart and move forward.

Romans 8:28 says, And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Therefore we know there is no such thing as failure in Jesus Christ because everything (the good, bad, and ugly) works together for our good.

Intimacy with God

My final tip on how to stop feeling insecure is the big “I” word. Intimacy.

Whenever I’m down and feeling out, intimacy with God seems to cure it all.

No doubt, intimacy with God means different things to different people.  Some persons find intimacy in worship while others go on dates with God others listen in solace to hear His voice.  Whatever your intimate space with God is, it is in those moments God will reassure you that He is with you.

As you commune with God, He will quietly give you peace that cannot be matched or even understood.  In His Presence, every ugly feeling, including insecurity, has no choice but to flee.

When you were a little kid, and you fell and bruised yourself, you always ran to your parents.  Although they could not physically heal you, their attentiveness and embrace bought a comfort that cannot be described.

It is in this same manner, intimacy with God gives us security, knowing that even if life does not happen ideally, our Father is always going to be near.  What can be more secure than that?

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

–James 4:8

There you have it.

Three ways that will help you to stop feeling insecure.

You can live a life being confident that God has fixed your purpose. The next time insecurity comes to speak into your heart, boldly silence those thoughts.

God will do marvelous works in your life that you could not even imagine.

I’m rooting and praying for you!

Until next time…

Be Strong, Be Courageous, Serve God Wholeheartedly

With lots and lots of love
