The past few weeks I’ve been a little burdened.  As per usual, I spent some time reflecting on my life in particular.  Let me tell you how it all started.

A few weeks ago, I watched this sobering sermon by John Bevere, entitled Driven by Eternity”.  This sermon talks all about eternity and how the decisions we make today will no doubt affect our eternity.

While this information is not new to believers, that entire sermon hit me to the core and knocked the wind out of me.  I mean like a U-haul truck.

I had no choice but to rethink my motive for every single action I’ve taken thus far in my life – Every action.

I then began to think about you, the millennials—my generation.

No doubt, this summers’ anthem is living my best life

  • I’ve seen the status’.
  • Heard persons singing the song
  • Read the related quotes.

I am not going to lie; the thought of living your best life is enticing.  Everyone desires to live it up while being here on earth.

Still, there are several versions of what living your best life looks like.  Some think dressing nicely defines living your best life.  Others think dining in the best restaurants is living your best life.  Another thinks hitting a new spot every week is living your best life.

Whatever your interpretation of living your best life is, I just stopped by to say, don’t live your best life while preparing for your worst eternity.

In other words, what you do here on earth (Christian or Not)… it matters!

Here is the truth about living your best life.

Life on Earth is Temporary

Your life on this earth is temporary. Let’s face it. We all have to die one day.  Eternity is not. You have a soul that will live on forever. As in, it will never die.

Here’s a true story…

While at a prayer meeting a few years ago, a mature man got up and testified.  He was a prison officer here in the Bahamas that was shot down while in a backslidden state.

In his story, this man described his near-death experience

While shot down physically, he explained he knew his soul was going to a dark place that was not heaven.  Fortunately, God spared his life.

Among everything that he said, there is one statement I will never forget.

“Do not trade years for eternity”.

It is easy to get caught up in the day to day.  We worry about things like viral content, being successful, attaining wealth, keeping bills current, driving the latest cars, and wearing designer clothes.

When you find yourself becoming immensely consumed with the cares of this world, pull yourself back, take a chill pill, and remind yourself that everything on this earth will one day pass away.

The truth is, only what is done for God will stand in eternity. Nothing else matters. Colossian 3:2 always reminds me to “Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.”

God Wants to Spend Forever with You

God loves you so much that He desires to spend forever with you. Years were just not enough, so He sent His Son to die to give you an opportunity to spend forever with him.

While I can’t say that I’m jumping for joy to die, there is great joy and peace in knowing that as I live a life that is pleasing in God’s sight, one day I will get to meet Him face to face.

Could you believe it?

  • One day I will get to meet Jesus.
  • One day I won’t have to cry or experience sorrow.
  • One day, I get to experience the wonders of heaven.
  • One day will live forever.

This is why I often refer to Jesus as the love of my eternity because life is just too short.

God wants you also to experience that joy and excitement of one day.

In closing, I say yassssss… live your best life, BUT do it God’s way by living a life of obedience.

There’s no reason you cannot live your best life and your best eternity.

How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog–it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.

– James 4:14

Until next time…

Be strong, Be Courageous, Serve God Wholeheartedly.
